Our publishing wing, VAO Publishing, is accepting submissions until July 1st for its upcoming title Along the River II. The anthology will be available in September 2012.

Valley Artistic Outreach would like to publicly recognize Deena Herrera, whose organization Chingona Fest has been very supportive and generous. Deena presented us with $300 of donations at our May fundraiser.

Valley Artistic Outreach will have a table at tomorrow’s Jardín del Arte, a community festival taking place at the Edinburg City Hall from 5 to 10 pm.  This event is part of the annual Festival of International Books and Arts (FESTIBA), created in 2006 to promote an interest and appreciation for reading and early literacy, celebrate and appreciate the arts and humanities, and broaden cultural awareness within the South Texas community.

On March 11, 2012, VAO held an Evening of Art at Peace & Coffee in Edinburg, Texas. Here are some images from that event.

In conjunction with Jackie O’s, Valley Artistic Outreach invites you to one of many Speechless Nights this 28th of March, from 7-12.

On April 14, Carino’s Italian Restaurant in McAllen, TX, will be hosting its monthly Pasta, Poetry & Vino event from 7 pm to 10 pm. On hand will be local poets, musicians and the art of Sebastian Nieto, 18-year-old student at Edinburg High School, as well as other student artwork from VAO workshops.

We encourage you to come out and enjoy a wonderful evening. A percentage of the sales will be donated by Carino’s manager, Edward Vidaurre, to Valley Artistic Outreach.

VAO invites everyone to attend an Evening of Art at Peace & Coffee in Edinburg this Sunday, March 11, from 5 to 8 pm.  There will be live music, poetry reading and great art.  Raffle tickets will be sold to help fundraise for our art workshops and exhibits: a $10 ticket gets you a free beer and a chance to win VAO merchandise (t-shirts, books, etc.) or student artwork.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy art, mingle with like-minded friends, and support our outreach programs!

On October 8, VAO teamed up with the McAllen Public Library to bring the work of children and adult artists to the viewing public.
